Sooper Credit Union Supports Andrew P. Todis Memorial Bike 4 Bike Drive

The Andrew P. Todis Memorial Bike 4 Bike Drive, a charity bike match, took place throughout May with the goal of providing 200 bikes to children throughout the Denver area who would not otherwise have access to them. The children were able to pick out bikes of their choosing, were given bike locks, and were properly fitted with matching helmets by members of the Arvada Police Department.

“I vividly recall how my own, first bike brought out a sense of pride within me. Working with Excalibur Outreach and other community partners to foster that same sense of pride and ownership among these children is an incredibly gratifying experience,” said Sooper Credit Union Community Advocate Terry Carter-Davis.

Once each bike had been distributed, Officers Kelly Lechuga and Albino Guerrero provided a short lesson on bike safety. They were soon ready to ride and, with giant smiles, took to the pavement. The older children were racing each other across the parking lot but would stop to help the younger children just starting to learn the ropes.

To close the event, Sooper Credit Union presented Excalibur Outreach with a $500 donation to go toward future events.

The idea for Excalibur Outreach developed in 2017 when Executive Director and Founder Brian Collins donated an extra turkey to a family in need during the holidays. The organization has since expanded its program to include multiple annual and popup events to help less fortunate families, with a focus on children and food security.

Sooper Credit Union fosters community giving through volunteerism and the support of sponsorships, donations, and scholarships to empower as many people as possible to take charge of their lives and make their dreams a reality.
